Known as the film capital of Ireland, County Wicklow has no shortage of film locations. It is having the time to show them all to you which is the problem. We have selected the best places and best anecdotes to give you a flavour of filming, here.
We shall see the beautiful locations of Excalibur, PS I Love You, King Arthur and Braveheart and many more. We will take a peek at the former retreat of the late Michael Jackson at Lough Tay. We will continue to Russborough House where you can enjoy photographs and film reels dating back to the 1920s, all within a purpose built cinema built in the 1950s. Steven Soderbergh Oscar winning director of Erin Brockovich and Ocean’s eleven, twelve & Thirteen etc. filmed for a week at Russborough in February 2010 for a film called ‘Haywire’ starring Michael Fassbender, which is to be released internationally in August 2011. From here we will take a Lake Drive in Blessington where beneath the water lies a village! In fact, we can boast that a family in Hollywood, County Wicklow were the founding fathers of the film capital of the world - Hollywood USA – we will sample the atmosphere in the Irish pub in this famous village.
