Welcome to Avoca, in County Wicklow (The Garden County!) and the home of the BBC TV series 'Ballykissangel' starring Colin Farrell and Stephen Thompkinson.

Our guided walking trail starts and ends at the family owned Fitzgerald's Pub (previously The Fountain Hotel and then The Fountain Bar) in the village of Avoca. We walk through this historic (Avoca warrants a mention on Ptolemy's map of Ireland 160AD) traditionally charming and colourful village of Avoca with its painted facades, with the magnificent Avoca River running through it and surrounded by woodland.

Experience the history and heritage of this small mining village from the 1700s, see the tourist destination of Walt Disney and workplace of Bram Stoker (of Count Dracula fame)! Learn how the village got its name. Visit the church on the hill at the top of the village built by the miners and learn of the lawlessness caused by those same miners.

Nearing the end of your tour you will visit the oldest handweaving mill in Ireland and the first registered business in Ireland, the Avoca Handweavers. The charming setting with its cottage outhouses and wooden weaving looms take us back centuries. You will be treated to a tour of the handweaving sheds and get an opportunity to browse around the crafts and gifts in the mill shop.

Enjoy a well earned rest from your walk and shop by visiting the Ballykissangel Pub - Fitzgerald's Pub - for a chat with the locals and a heartwarming meal of Irish Stew and a glass of Guinness.

It's a great photo opportunity to get behind the bar and pull your own glass of Guinness with a main meal! Takes place at 12 noon each day.
